Nice creperie - one of the few that serve whole wheat gallettes!

Hackney at its best. Some great boutiques, wonderful food and even good music too.

For the perfect lazy Saturday morning, head to Broadway Market! Sunshine definitely preferable. Lots of little cafes (one up on the LHS heading towards London Fields, although I cannot remember the name - always has long queues but makes delicious coffee) and pubs. Ok, a couple are still a bit dodgy but this is Hackney after all! Then there are plenty of stalls selling food and other things of the "arts and crafts" genre - jewellery, kids toys, pictures etc. The market is flanked by a few boutique type shops and little galleries etc. Violet cakes (at the south end) makes the most exquisite miniature cupcakes with a superb range of flavours including quince, salted caramel and vanilla. Plus, at the south end of the market, you'll find one of the best bookshops in London. Really. The Bookshop is the sort of shop that only sells the kind of books you want to read. And the staff are exceptionally knowledgable and helpful. I could spend a whole morning, plus a whole weeks wages, in there. Wonderful stuff. (Theirs is the website is the one I've put with this Rummble.) In the past has had a lot of the hoxton trustafarians - skinny jeans, converse footwear, floral dresses over coloured leggings, big sunglasses, heavy fringes etc. But an increasing number of families seem to be making an appearance with kids in pushchairs and doting dogs trotting by their ankles. Even the odd zimmer frame can be spotted. And if you've had enough of the bustle of the market, head to London Fields, sit on the grass and read the books that you'll have just bought in The Bookshop!
